PERCUTANEOUS DRAINAGE OF ABDOMINAL ABSCESSES AND FLUID COLLECTIONS
This report summarizes the results of 64 percutaneous catheter drainage of abdominal abscesses and fluid collections in 56 patients. Aspiration and drainage was guided with computed tomography in 34 patients and with ultrasound in 30 patients. Success rate was 90%. Infected collections were successfully drained in 94% and noninfected collections in 72% . Partial success was achieved in two...
متن کاملHemoptysis After Subclavian Vein Puncture for Pacemaker Implantation: Importance of Wire-Guided Venous Puncture
We report a case of hemoptysis occurring after subclavian vein puncture for pacemaker implantation. Hemoptysis related to injury of lung parenchyma is a rare complication of subclavian vein access and is usually self limited, but can affect prognosis in critically ill patients. Venogram-guided or even better wire-guided venous puncture allow safe access to the subclavian vein in difficult cases...
متن کاملGuide wire distance marks for oesophageal dilatation.
The addition of chemically etched distance marks to standard oesophageal guide wires is described so that guide wire retraction during progressive oesophageal dilatation and impending impaction of the dilator onto the flexible wire tip can be quickly and easily recognised.

Central venous catheter placement is a relatively common procedure in current practice, but it is not devoid of risks. Utmost care must be taken to follow a correct technique, and only appropriately trained and/or supervised medical professionals should perform this invasive act.
